Today we are saddened to hear of the loss of our hero aged 87. But we are also happy because we know he lived as full and great a life as any human being can live. Our condolences go to all his family and friends. Here are some of the tributes which have been left here.
My heart breaks this am... :( I just read the news our beloved
captain has gone to the great Colypso in Heaven...how joyfully for all
God's creatures in Heaven..how dreadfully sad for those left behind without
their devoted crusader. Jacques you opened my heart, mind and soul early
in the 1980's to the plight
of the dolphins, whales and seals and the importance of saving our
precious oceans. How profoundly you touched my heart...how deeply your
presence in my world will be missed. Today I cry tears for all those
living creatures in our oceans and seas that will never be graced by
your saving touch...2/3 of this world is made of water and every drop
is the tears of those who mourn your passing today...not only we humans,
but especially those who make those ocean of tears their home....rest in
peace my great warrior--may God give you a mansion in Heaven by the seas
and may every animal and mammal you ever saved by your cause be there to
greet you with eternal passion and gratitude...from me and all those in
the world you left behind..........OCEANS OF ETERNAL LOVE AND PRAYERS OF
THANKSGIVING.....XOX

Sad day for the ocean, Capitaine Cousteau has begun the last trip to the
unfathomable depths of the afterlife. His example perdures in every lover
of the sea and in every oceanographer that followed his path.

C'etait un homme passionne, et, ce matin, mon tribut a ete :
Jacques Cousteau, R.I.P. you achieved your dream. We love you.

Jacques-Yve's demise is the conclusion of one of the finest lives in the history of mankind. I know he is very busy wherever he is, adding to whatever is going on. In tribute to one of the greatest men I've ever met in my life, I pass along this well-worn statement regarding my old friend and companion, Jacques-Yve Cousteau:
A PARABLE OF IMMORALITY, HENRY VAN DYKE
"I'm standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads his white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.
He is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch until at last he hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sun and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, 'There, he goes.'
Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all.
He is just as large in mast and hull and spars as he was when he left my side and just as able to bear his load of living freight to the places of destination.
His diminished size is in me, not in him. And just at the moment when someone at my side says 'There, he goes!', there are other eyes watching his coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout 'Here he comes' "
Thank you Jacques Yve...your friend, Eugene - Blessings to the Cousteau
Family from all the old gang in New Jersey that dove so many times with
the master.

Jacques-Yves Cousteau brought us all a rich knowledge about the diverse eco-systems beneath the earths surface. We all are living a legacy this wonderful man brought up from the depths of his soul as well as from beneath the sea. His passion and love of the environment,as well as his deep understanding of the extremely delicate balance which exists between all living things on this planet, made him a wonderful spokesman on behalf of all of nature. His dedication and resolve have proven to be gifts to all of us who have turned on the television set, only to find ourselves diving with whales, sharks, or observing an ancient debris field from sunken ships, lost or forgotten until Jacques-Yves brought them back to life again, if only for the moment, to share the plight of the human spirit captured by the sea.
I have many memories that I would have never had, if it
were not for Jacques-Yves love of the sea. He was gracious
enough to bring us the wonders that one could only imagine
without the ability to breathe underwater.
I will always treasure the episode that took us so deep
beneath the water, to see an iridescent sea creature so
beautiful and delicate, floating and swirling, flying
seemingly playing for the camera. That particular episode
was so powerful for me because it seemed to fly in the face
of conventional wisdom, and brazen conceit humans share
with one another. It made me realize we are only but a cog.
Thank you Jacques-Yves Cousteau, your gifts to humanity
will live on, in time immortal.

Dear Cousteau Family and friends:
Please accept my expression of sadness over the recent passing of the only man to bring to the masses even a semblance of the importance of the preservation of our planet Earth.
I wish I had known about this site PRIOR to his leaving us.
I have watched every presentation my hero ever made that was made available to me.
Thanks to him, I became, for a time, a professional diver- one of the greatest experiences of my life.
I shall carry Jacques' dreams and goals with me throughout the rest of my life, hopefully in some small way assisting to help him reach them vicariously.
Again, I am greatly saddened to learn of this event.

Diver, inventor, commander, scientist, explorer, adventurer, conservationist. Jacques-Yves has lived a full life! This page is the home of a small collection of links to Cousteau pages around the web. Please bear in mind that these have been posted on the web by other people, not me, so if you have any specific comments about them you should contact the author concerned.

Cousteau has made more than 120 natural history documentaries. His early films were unique in their time and won major awards. In 1968 he began filming The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau which became a popular series for television world wide. In 1986 he began a new series Discovering the World and more recently he has turned to The Great Rivers. These are some of the titles, in French and English. The dates shown are of the copyright dates on the films.
You are welcome to send me messages about Cousteau but please bear in mind that I do not have much information about the films. I saw them on TV in France where I lived for five years. I do not know which are available on video, or where they can be bought, but try a web search on the titles, and you might find suppliers.
