Record 1023 Name: jeff davis Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Half Moon Bay, Calif Time: 1999-02-24 09:47:51 Comments: I've been reading up on qm: erp, bell, aspect, etc. It's all quite befuddling. Though I studied physics and engineering in college, I frankly admit, that it got to be "too hard" for me at some point and I refused to put forth the effort necessary to understand it, so that I could continue (with the advanced physics and its attendant math). But it always remained fascinating. Now, it seems, as I look at it again, that those who studied it with all they had, who didn't just say "Enough's enough" when the math got so arcane that they had to choose between being a normal human and some sort of intellectual oddity (or so it seemed to me when I looked at the otherwordly nature of math majors)--even those most deeply penetrating seers of the subject, are befuddled, divided, disturbed, by their inability to see it, get it, make it come together. They can do the math, but it doesn't answer their questions. It only gives them more questions. I'm not saying that they're unhappy with their predicament-- penetrating the mysteries of Maya would not be the adventure it is if it were predictable or easy--I'm just saying that I don't feel nearly as inadequate, now that I can place myself up there with the best of them, in terms of befuddlement. So, I was surfing around, collecting stuff that I hoped would clear up some of the confusion, when I came upon your FTL page. I've noticed in my readings a certain restlessness, a certain rowdyness among the younger players. They seem impatient with the status quo, with the durability of the qm Gordian knot, with the smug security of the Copenhagen school. Worshipping the icons--Einstein to Bohr--who gave us modern physics in the first quarter of theis century is not enough for them anymore. They want answers (so do I). Which brings me to my reason for going on like this. The relativistic Rocket?!! Crossing the galaxy in twelve (subjective) years?!! How brash of you. Here I was, reading along, quite impressed and pleased by the quality of your exposition, making some headway in clearing up some of my confusion about the qm muddle, when suddenly you're telling me that my oft-dreamed-of interstellar journey, the one which was supposed to require several generations of my descendants, or some version of cryosleep, can, in fact, be accomplished in a couple or three years, courtesy of a decent vehicle design and a very accomodating Lorentz contraction? My head is swimming. I've got to sit down. |

I am developing a second personal web site dedicated to a two-decade research into the mathematics of the complex numbers in the fourth dimension. The mathematics are similar, but not the same, a Hamilton's quaternions. This web site will also introduce a software for visualizing 4-variable equations. The software has been under development since Visual Basic version 2.0 appeared Congratulations for your dedication to the educational aspects of science, (-and what else is science beside education?) By the way, look for a meteorite stones elsewhere, and leave Perú sacred sites alone. (I am an iconoclast, but they are not, so, let's respect their beliefs) |

I was particularly impressed with your correct indian terminology of all the spices--which is so very uncommon even amongst the ardent curry lovers. On the more serious note I have bookmarked your site and want to come back time and again and go through some of the new theories in more detail as it contains a wealth of information--all around. |

I never took physics or chemistry in high school and now I wonder why. Thanks to my physics instructor Professor Berk (fusions studies) I am starting to feel a sensation of enlightenment and to see things as though I have x-ray vision. I wish the Physics world had a good PR dept. so that the mere mention of it would not elicit feelings of apprehension or fear but, rather, an excitement and desire to embrace it! Physics rocks! |
