Safe For Kids Web Rating System
Safe For Kids is ten years old
and to celebrate we are reorganising these pages a little to make them clearer and easier to navigate.
Safe For Kids is a self-rating system for web
pages. It is for web authors who wish to mark their pages
with a rating to indicate that it is safe for kids.
The pages do not have to be specifically for children only, but they must be squeaky
clean.
The Safe For Kids meta tag is a PICS
label which can be recognised by web browsers such as Microsoft
Internet Explorer when suitably configured by parents or
teachers.

How do I tag my web pages as Safe For Kids?
If you have a web page which is safe for kids it is very
simple to use the Safe For Kids rating system:
Put the Safe For Kids HTML meta tag in the
header of the page. The tag should be as follows,
<meta http-equiv="PICS-Label" content='(PICS-1.1
"http://www.weburbia.com/safe/ratings.htm" l r (s 0))'>
They need to go between the <head> and </head> tags
of the source text of the pages
along with the title and any other meta tags you have. Try
looking at the Source option in the
View menu of your browser to see the source
of this page as an example.
Many web page authoring tools do not have facilities
for adding this kind of tag into your pages but you can
always do it with an ordinary text editor. If you are a grown
up ask a kid to help you!
For an example of the labels in use view the source on this site.
It is also possible to use this system to rate your pages as "Parental Guidance" or "Adults Only".
For more information visit the classification page.

How can I mark my pages as Safe For Kids with the logo?
You can also use the blue Safe For
Kids logo and make a link to this page if you want to. Copy the image below for the logo of the size you want
to the same folder as the page and use e.g. this HTML:
<a href="http://www.weburbia.com/safe/"><img src="sk1.gif" alt="safe for kids" /></a>

You may modify the logos to suit the style of your page, or try some of the alternative logos.
We recommend that you test the image and link on your site from a PC other than the one you used to make the page.

and how it can also be applied to pages which may demand
some parental guidance, we refer you to the original
